Unfortunately, similar to other large breeds, Bernese are prone to certain health conditions. In particular you should be aware of any health conditions that can be carried to a puppy from its parents and grandparents, such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cancer and any problematic behaviour.

While a puppy is still growing it is important not to overwhelm them with exercise, but to ensure light and regular walks. This, as well as a healthy diet and not overfeeding your puppy, can help to avoid hip and elbow dysplasia.

Our Bernese Girls

Bernese Mountain Dog was love at first sight for us. We went to a dog show, saw a Bernese and that was it. We approached a few of the owners during the show and found somebody who had puppies for sale. We went to the breeder the next day and took our first Bernese, Prada, home. Over 10 years on and our love for the breed has only grown.

Bernese are considered to be the perfect family dog. They are large and cuddly like a teddy bear, don't require excessive amounts of exercise and all they want to do is please their family. So if you are an active and social person, so will they be; if you love to sit on the sofa and watch TV all day, then so will they.
